The Makousen (激裂光弾, Gekiretsu Kōdan; Literally meaning "Violent Rending Light Projectile") is an energy wave technique in the Dragon Ball franchise. It makes its debut in "The Monster Is Coming", the 148th episode of Dragon Ball Z, which premiered on July 15, 1992. It makes its first manga appearance in "Piccolo vs. #17", the 367th chapter of the Dragon Ball manga, issued on August 4, 1992. The technique has since made appearances in several video games spun off by the series, such as the Budokai Tenkaichi series, wherein the latter it is known as the Light Grenade.

Overview

The name is never used in the Japanese manga or anime series directly. It only appears in an episode title from the start of the confrontation a few episodes prior (The Gekiretsu Kōdan that Split the Heavens!! Piccolo vs. Artificial Human No. 17), and in various Dragon Ball video games. Its English name derives from the Funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z. In the English video games it is called Light Grenade, yet in Budokai Tenkaichi 2 when Piccolo uses it, he yells "Fury Bullet!" He gathers power in front of him with his hands near his stomach, forming an energy ball. He then pushes the energy ball towards the opponent, inflicting great damage.

The Makousen is often mistaken for Chōbakuretsumaha, another of Piccolo's attacks.
